We immerse ourselves in an atmosphere of tranquility, staying at a boutique hotel designed in a Japanese style, where minimalist aesthetics and impeccable service provide the perfect headspace for a serious expedition. The first evening is spent over a wine tasting with like-minded travellers, discussing the nuances of the upcoming route. These initial days form the foundation of our adventure: under the expert guidance of Lidiya Zvoznikova, we will acclimatise at an altitude of 3,000 metres and test our equipment in the field.
