10-day itinerary
overview

A deep investigation into a nation's resilience — Soviet "silent cities," the 1916 Urkun tragedy, and Great Silk Road heritage — guided by someone who has documented the region for over a decade.

Day 01
Welcome to Kyrgyzstan
Arrival in Bishkek
Meet and greet at Manas International Airport followed by a private transfer to the hotel. Early check-in is included for your comfort.
Day 02
Into the valley
Bishkek – Chon-Kemin
Uncover Kyrgyzstan's WWII industrial leap in the secretive town of Ak-Tyuz before retreating to the serene landscapes of Chon-Kemin, the cradle of the nation's independence.
Day 03
Echoes of the Exodus
Chon-Kemin – Kyrchyn – Karkara
Experience nomadic traditions through ethnic games and mountain camp life, while exploring the history of the 1916 Urkun uprising against Tsarist Russia — a firsthand look at how these events shaped the identity and resilience of the Kyrgyz people.
Day 04
The Ghost Town
Karkara – Enilchek
An off-road journey to a deserted Soviet industrial town near the Chinese border. Explore the surreal post-apocalyptic landscapes of Enilchek, a forgotten relic of the Cold War era.
Day 05
From Mines to Mountains
Enilchek – Jyrgalan
Cross the 3,822m Chon-Ashuu pass to explore Jyrgalan, a former coal mining village successfully transformed into a premier outdoor destination — Kyrgyzstan's shift from industrial extraction to sustainable mountain tourism.
Day 06
Imperial Frontiers
Jyrgalan – Karakol
Explore the Russian Empire's influence through the wooden architecture and unique Dungan mosque of Karakol. Follow the lens of historic traveler Ella Maillart to see how 19th-century conquest reshaped Central Asian life.
Day 07
Toward the plateau
Kadji-Sai – Son-Kul
Discover the culinary and architectural traditions of the Dungan people before uncovering the legacy of Soviet-era uranium mining in Kadji-Sai. End the day relaxing on the pristine southern shore of Issyk-Kul Lake.
Day 08
Along the Great Silk Road
Kadji-Sai – Son-Kol
Follow the ancient trade routes of the Silk Road to experience a golden eagle hunting (berkutchi) demonstration. Conclude the day with an overnight stay at the high-altitude Lake Son-Kul, surrounded by pristine wilderness.
Day 09
Alpine Serenity
Son-Kol – Bishkek
Return to the capital for a farewell dinner and a curated wine tasting — a time to reflect on the expedition's discoveries and celebrate the spirit of Central Asia.
Day 10
Final Farewells
Bishkek – Manas Airport
A comfortable private transfer to the airport for your departure. Take with you the stories and spirit of the Tian Shan as you begin your journey home.
